It’s all about the connections and the journey
“In my heart I have always burned to create”
Deborah Moseley trained under Alan Wood of Matlock College, affiliate to Nottingham University. Debbie has expressed her creativity in many ways through a variety of media and for over thirty years worked with children to produce large scale installations, crossing over art forms, born out of shared inspiration and imagination.
Family is a vital part of Debbie’s world; raising her four children and caring for her parents informed her personal development and led to the current direction in which her art is travelling. Following the death of her mother, Debbie’s art took a different turn, moving from a figurative style to an abstract, expressive outpouring; exemplified in this current collection.
Debbie paints with energy and passion, using a variety of tools to apply colour and shape to the canvas, describing how these paintings almost seem ‘to paint themselves’; coming from somewhere deep inside. This exhibition is a collection of works considering our journey through life. They are her emotional response to the lived experience of loss and reflect on the connections within us, with others and the world beyond.
In this body of work, Debbie explores how people are like travelling universes. Several paintings explore the inner workings of the brain and there are references to cells and organisms and the natural processes that inevitably lead to disease and decay. These images in turn are echoed in the natural world and reference possible connections to other, as yet unknown universes.
“Life is a journey; I hope through my art you are able to step on board and come a little way on my journey with me.
